In the small town of Calhoun City, Mississippi, a young life was tragically cut short, leaving a community in mourning. Ten-year-old Oaklee Tatum Brasher, a vibrant and beloved boy, passed away at his home on Monday, February 20, 2023. His untimely death was the result of an accidental shooting, and authorities have indicated that no charges will be filed in the incident.
Oaklee was a fifth-grade student at Vardaman Elementary School, where he had recently been honored as a 'Student of
the Month.' He was known for his infectious personality and for being a kind and happy young man who was always smiling. He was an active member of the Calhoun City First Baptist Church, where he enjoyed participating in Bible Drills.
A true outdoorsman, Oaklee loved hunting, riding horses with his grandfather, and tending to his cows. He was also deeply involved in the Calhoun County 4-H program, where he showed livestock and had earned a spot at the 2023 Dixie National Jr. Round-up. His family and friends remember him as a beacon of love and spirit whose creative soul brought color and warmth to the world around him. He leaves behind his loving parents and a sister.
