In the late hours of a Tuesday in Yazoo City, Mississippi, the life of 15-year-old Hayden Toliver, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On August 29, 2023, at approximately 10:30 PM, reports of gunfire behind the Willow Wood Apartments prompted a response from local authorities. Arriving at the scene near Thomas Christian Academy, officers discovered the young man on the ground, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head.
Despite still having a pulse and being rushed to a local hospital, his injuries were too severe.
Hayden was subsequently airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson for more advanced care. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries the following day, a fact confirmed by the Yazoo County Coroner, Ricky Shivers. The cause of the shooting was reported to have stemmed from an altercation involving several people in the area at the time.

He was subsequently charged with murder in connection with Hayden Toliver's death. A municipal court judge set his bond at $350,000. The police have indicated that the investigation remains ongoing, as they continue to follow leads regarding Patterson's and others' potential involvement in the case.
