In the early morning hours of June 22, 2018, the life of 19-year-old Tandre Weekly, a Black male, was tragically cut short on Prentiss Street in Yazoo City, Mississippi. First responders discovered Weekly lying in the street with a single gunshot wound. Despite having a pulse when they arrived and being quickly moved into an ambulance for medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. His body was then taken to the Mississippi Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy.

The investigation into Weekly's death led authorities to two individuals. One man, Kerril Ross, was apprehended and charged with aggravated assault in connection with the shooting. The search for a second suspect, Railand Hucks, who was believed to have fired the fatal shot, ensued. The Yazoo City Police Department actively sought information from the public to locate him.

Ultimately, Railand Hucks turned himself in to the Yazoo City police. Police Chief Ron Sampson confirmed the involvement of both Ross and Hucks in the incident, identifying Hucks as the primary suspect in Weekly's death. The community was shaken by the violence, prompting discussions about safety in the area. The subsequent legal proceedings focused on unraveling the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting.
