On May 20, 2023, 16-year-old Montez Jamonta Mitchell was fatally shot in Yazoo City, Mississippi. The incident occurred just before midnight on East Club View Circle, where Mitchell's body was discovered in the yard of a residence. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Mitchell was a sophomore at Yazoo City High School.
