Julia McTure, a 47-year-old African American woman, was tragically found dead in her northwest Atlanta apartment on Hollywood Road on the morning of December 31, 2016. Her 9-year-old grandson, Maurice Weems, made the horrifying discovery when he woke up to use the restroom. Unable to wake his grandmother, he ran to neighbors for help, telling them that "somebody raped and killed my grandma." Authorities later determined that McTure had been strangled, ruling her death a homicide.
