In the early morning hours of a Tuesday in April, the vibrant nightlife of Atlanta took a tragic turn for 21-year-old Camryn Price. Originally from Lancaster, South Carolina, the young woman was in a vehicle with her boyfriend, leaving the well-known Magic City strip club. It was shortly after 3:20 a.m. when their Cadillac Escalade became the target of a drive-by shooting near the intersection of Pryor and Fulton streets.
The assailant's vehicle pulled up alongside the passenger side of
the Escalade, where Camryn was seated, and unleashed a barrage of bullets. The back window of their SUV was shattered as gunfire ripped through the vehicle. Her boyfriend, who was driving, sustained minor injuries from shrapnel and broken glass but was not directly hit by the gunfire. He quickly drove from the scene, seeking help on a nearby ramp to the Downtown Connector under the Memorial Drive overpass. Camryn was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition but ultimately succumbed to her wounds.
For months, the case remained under investigation, leaving a void of answers for a grieving family. Then, in November of the same year, a breakthrough was announced. Atlanta police identified 22-year-old Jacori Echols as the suspect in Camryn's murder. Investigators did not have to look far to find him, as he was already incarcerated in a state prison for a probation violation stemming from a 2019 conviction for financial crimes. Echols was subsequently charged with the killing of Camryn Price, bringing her family one step closer to justice, though the motive behind the senseless act of violence remains a lingering question.
