In the afternoon hours of a Monday in Jackson, Mississippi, the life of 22-year-old Markavius Carey was tragically cut short. On November 13, 2023, Carey, a Black male, was discovered by police in the 100 block of Berryhill Place suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Emergency services responded to the scene, but Carey had already succumbed to his injuries. The initial investigation by the Jackson Police Department indicated that he was the victim of a homicide. At the time of the incid ...
