On August 31, 2024, 51-year-old Freadie Lee Chism Jr. was fatally shot at the Village Apartments on Raymond Road in Jackson, Mississippi. The Mississippi Department of Public Safety reported that Chism died from a gunshot wound sustained during the incident.

In connection with Chism's death, Capitol Police arrested 38-year-old Ciarra Harley. Court records indicate that Harley has been charged with murder, alleging she shot Chism once in the chest with an unspecified firearm.
