In the spring of 2017, a burst of gunfire on Kenmore Drive in Jackson, Mississippi, abruptly ended the life of 25-year-old Javier Buckley. On the evening of April 6th, Buckley was struck by multiple gunshots. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead. The incident marked the city's 17th homicide of the year.
The Jackson Police Department immediately began an investigation into the shooting.
In the days that followed, authorities identified two individuals believed to be responsible for Buckley's death. One suspect, 19-year-old Sherman Thomas, was apprehended and subsequently charged with the fatal shooting.
A second suspect, identified as Moore, was also implicated in the crime. In a significant development in the case, Moore voluntarily surrendered to law enforcement. He was also charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of Javier Buckley. While the motive for the killing was not immediately clear, the swift arrests brought a measure of progress to the investigation.
