An altercation inside a residence on South Street in Grenada, Mississippi, on the evening of November 27, 2023, resulted in the shooting of 36-year-old Nicolaus Marquis Cole. Officers from the Grenada Police Department responded to a shooting call at approximately 7:57 p.m. and discovered Cole with gunshot wounds inside the home.
Emergency services transported Cole to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Grenada. He was then airlifted to another medical facility outside of Grenada County for further treatment. Despite medical efforts, Nicolaus Cole died from his injuries the following day, on Tuesday, November 28, 2023.
Authorities arrested 26-year-old Johnathan Sanders of Grenada in connection with the shooting. Sanders was initially charged with aggravated assault and booked into the Grenada County Jail. Following Cole's death, the charge against Sanders was upgraded to murder. His bond was set at $250,000. The police have stated that their investigation into the motive and the events leading up to the deadly shooting is ongoing.
