On December 31, 2023, at approximately 3:12 p.m., Clarksdale police responded to a shooting near 7th and Leflore Streets. Upon arrival, officers discovered 36-year-old Demetrius Curtis with multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses reported hearing an argument between Curtis and another man before the gunfire erupted.
