In the early hours of a Tuesday morning in Greenville, Mississippi, the life of 18-year-old Demarcus Taylor was tragically cut short. Taylor, a Black male, was discovered in the 900 block of Hal Street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. First responders arrived at the scene, in the vicinity of St. Charles and Hal Streets, after receiving a call about a person who had been shot.
Demarcus Taylor was quickly transported to Delta Health System for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was pronounced dead by the Washington County Coroner. His death, which occurred on May 8, 2024, was investigated by the Greenville Police Department as a homicide.
Following the incident, law enforcement officials began an investigation that led to the apprehension of a suspect. Tylar Lane, an 18-year-old also from Greenville, was arrested in connection with the shooting. Lane was subsequently charged with First Degree Murder. He is currently being held at the Washington County Regional Correctional Facility as he awaits his initial court appearance.
