In the late hours of May 29, 2024, a burst of gunfire shattered the night on Washington Street in Macon, Mississippi, ending the life of 23-year-old Demetris Harris Jr. A Black male, Harris was driving when the hail of bullets began. Struck by a single shot to the abdomen, he lost control of his vehicle, crashing after hitting mailboxes and a ditch. He was rushed to Noxubee General Hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
