In the early morning hours of June 8, 2024, in Batesville, Mississippi, 31-year-old Dameon Sanford, a father of six, was fatally shot at a car wash next to the Panola 1st Stop convenience store on Panola Avenue. Surveillance footage from the convenience store, which was closed at the time, showed Sanford walking to the adjacent car wash, where he appeared to be waiting for someone.
