On August 8, 2024, in Summit, Mississippi, Police Officer Troy Floyd, aged 52, was fatally shot during a routine checkpoint operation. As a vehicle approached the checkpoint, the passenger opened fire, striking Officer Floyd. Two additional officers arrived promptly, leading to an exchange of gunfire that resulted in the suspect's death. Both responding officers sustained injuries during the confrontation at a nearby grocery store. Details regarding the driver of the vehicle remain limited.
