On October 11, 2024, Jonathan Shaffer, 33, of Greenwood, Mississippi, was fatally shot in a drive-by incident at the intersection of U.S. 82 and Sycamore Avenue. The attack occurred around 8 a.m. as Shaffer and two others were traveling in a vehicle, targeted from behind by unknown assailants. Another passenger, 27-year-old Octavious Turner, also from Greenwood, sustained injuries and was transported to Jackson for treatment.
