On a humid Saturday night in mid-August 2015, D’Alandis Love, a 27-year-old Black man from Greenwood, Mississippi, slid into the back seat of a red Pontiac with his cousins and friends, heading west on Highway 82 toward the Moroccan Lounge in nearby Itta Bena.
