In the evening hours of Sunday, July 23, 2023, a shooting shattered the peace at the Concord Place Apartments in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Davion Lamar Johnson, a 21-year-old male, was struck by gunfire around 8:15 p.m. at the complex located on West KL Avenue. Emergency services responded, and he was quickly transported to Bronson Methodist Hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of the medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
Known affectionately as 'Dav,' Johnson was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School, having received his diploma in June 2020. He had worked at a few places after graduation, with Walmart and Security Plus being among his favorites. He was described as someone who deeply cherished his family, always the first to offer help. He had a passion for playing video games, cooking, and going bowling with his loved ones. He also enjoyed traveling and spending time with his long-term girlfriend.
As of late July 2023, the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office had not publicly released a motive for the shooting. Details regarding any potential suspects or if any arrests had been made in connection with the homicide were not made available as the investigation remained active. Authorities have asked that anyone with information regarding the incident contact the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office or Silent Observer.
