In the early morning hours of May 30, 2024, a verbal altercation in Detroit, Michigan, escalated into a tragic act of violence that claimed the life of 19-year-old Jevon Miller. The young mother was fatally shot in the head, and her three-year-old son was critically injured by a gunshot wound to the neck. The incident occurred in the area of Whitcomb and Tireman, where Miller resided with her boyfriend.
The alleged assailant was Virgil Dan Brown, 22, the victim's boyfriend and the father
of the injured child. Following an argument between the couple, Brown is said to have produced a handgun and fired, striking both Miller and their young son. Responding to reports of a shooting at approximately 6:44 a.m., Detroit police officers discovered Miller deceased at the scene. The child was rushed to a local hospital for treatment.
In the wake of the shooting, Virgil Dan Brown turned himself in to the authorities. He has since been charged with first-degree murder, assault with intent to murder, second-degree child abuse, carrying a concealed weapon, and three counts of felony firearm. During his arraignment in 36th District Court, he was remanded to jail without bond. Court proceedings, including a probable cause conference and a preliminary examination, were scheduled for June of 2024.
