On the afternoon of December 10, 2025, a violent altercation erupted on the west side of Detroit, Michigan, leading to a tragic loss of life. Around 2:47 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to the 15500 block of Sussex Street following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, first responders discovered two individuals who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the chaos.
Investigators determined that the incident began as a verbal dispute involving three males in the
area. The argument quickly escalated, resulting in a handgun being fired. Cherish Hinson, an 18-year-old female who was not involved in the conflict, was struck by the gunfire. Emergency medical personnel transported her to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. A 22-year-old man was also wounded in the shooting and was treated at an area hospital for his injuries.
Law enforcement officials acted quickly, detaining suspects who had attempted to flee the scene. The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office subsequently announced charges against two individuals in connection with the homicide. Lorenzo Bernard Lancaster, 17, was charged as an adult with first-degree murder, assault with intent to murder, and two counts of felony firearm. A second suspect, 20-year-old Kavonta Maurice Plummer, faced charges of accessory after the fact, resisting and obstructing an officer, and carrying a concealed weapon. Plummer was arraigned in the 36th District Court with a personal bond set at $100,000, while legal proceedings for Lancaster were scheduled to follow immediately after.
