Johnell Stephon Whittington, a 30-year-old Black man, was still alive when the violence first caught up with him on Saturday, June 15, 2024, in Saginaw, Michigan—a day that began like any other, until gunfire tore through a stretch of Webber Street near the T & M Market. State police said the shooting happened around 8 a.m., and when responders arrived, Whittington was fighting for his life, listed in critical condition as he was rushed to a local hospital.
