In the early hours of June 26, 2024, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of a Flint, Michigan neighborhood, leaving two families irrevocably broken. Responding to reports of a shooting at approximately 1:20 a.m. in the 1300 block of Banbury Place, Flint Police officers discovered a tragic scene. Two teenagers had been struck by bullets. One of the victims was 13-year-old Dontavis Moore, a Black male.
He was rushed to a local hospital, but his injuries proved too severe, and he was pronounced deceased.
At the scene, the second victim, 15-year-old Dominique Ward, was found to have died from his wounds before he could be transported for medical help. The double homicide sent a shockwave of grief and fear through the community, prompting an intensive investigation by local law enforcement. Detectives worked to piece together the events that led to the violent deaths of the two young boys.
Following a thorough investigation, the Flint Police Department made an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting. Nineteen-year-old Ryan Davis was taken into custody and subsequently arraigned on a 17-count warrant. The charges against Davis are extensive and severe, painting a grim picture of the incident. He faces two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Dontavis Moore and Dominique Ward.
The litany of charges against Davis also includes three counts of assault with intent to murder, suggesting other individuals may have been targeted. Further charges include two counts of discharging a firearm in or at a building causing death, seven counts of felony firearm, gang membership felonies, using a computer to commit a crime, and carrying a concealed weapon.
