On a Tuesday afternoon, the life of 30-year-old Antonio Crump Jr., a Black male from Washington, D.C., was tragically cut short. On May 16, 2023, at approximately 3:00 p.m., chaos erupted in the 1700 block of Belle Haven Drive in Landover, Maryland, as gunfire rang out. When officers from the Prince George's County Police Department arrived at the scene, they discovered Mr. Crump outside, suffering from fatal gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another adult male was found nearby, also struck by bullets. This second victim was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.
In the days that followed the shooting, the Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit launched an investigation into the violent encounter that left one man dead and another fighting for his life. Detectives began working to piece together the circumstances that led to the shooting. As part of their efforts to generate leads, investigators released surveillance footage to the public. The images showed a person of interest, a man who was inside a nearby 7-Eleven on Sheriff Road shortly before the incident occurred. Police expressed their desire to speak with this individual in the hopes of furthering their active investigation.
Despite the release of the video and photos, the case remains unsolved, as no arrests have been made in the death of Antonio Crump Jr. The suspect or suspects involved in the shooting are still unidentified and at large.
