In the early morning hours of June 10, 2023, the life of 22-year-old Aristides Flores Rosales of Langley Park was cut short by gunfire. Around 2:50 a.m., Prince George's County police officers were called to an apartment building in the 8100 block of 14th Avenue in Hyattsville, Maryland, for a report of a shooting. Inside, they discovered Flores Rosales suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second man was also shot during the incident but survived his injuries.
For over a year, the case remained unsolved, with detectives working to identify a suspect and motive. A reward of up to $25,000 was offered for information that could lead to an arrest and indictment. The breakthrough came in August 2024, when the Prince George's County Police Department's gun crimes unit arrested 33-year-old Rudy Lopez-Garcia of Hyattsville in connection with an unrelated shooting. Following his arrest, investigators obtained a search warrant for his home.
During the search of Lopez-Garcia's residence, police found two firearms. Ballistic testing linked one of the guns to the murder of Aristides Flores Rosales. The preliminary investigation suggests that the shooting stemmed from a dispute between Flores Rosales and Lopez-Garcia, who did not know each other prior to the incident. On June 5, 2025, Rudy Lopez-Garcia was charged with first and second-degree murder, as well as other related charges. He is currently in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
