In February of 2025, a young man's life was tragically cut short in a violent encounter. Vincent Fisher III, a 26-year-old from Landover, Maryland, was found inside a sports utility vehicle in the 2000 block of East Marlboro Avenue, suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. When Prince George's County police officers arrived at the scene around 6:50 p.m. on February 16th, he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting quickly revealed that Fisher had not been alone in the SUV.
He was with an acquaintance, 18-year-old Raymond Terry III, also of Landover. In a surprising turn of events, Terry turned himself in to authorities at the Landover Division III station shortly after the shooting. His surrender led to his arrest and subsequent charges of first and second-degree murder, along with other related charges. He was held in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
The motive for the fatal shooting remained under investigation, but it was clear that the two individuals knew each other. The case took on a particularly poignant dimension as it was revealed that Fisher had been a mentor to the young man who took his life. State's Attorney Tara Jackson later commented on the heartbreaking nature of the case, stating, 'the victim saw potential in the defendant and tried to guide him toward a better path… Instead, that trust and mentorship were met with unimaginable violence.'
In August of 2025, Raymond Terry III pleaded guilty to first-degree murder. Subsequently, in November of that year, the now 19-year-old was sentenced to 50 years in prison for the murder of Vincent Fisher III and the use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime. The victim's mother, Divina Fisher, has since become an anti-violence advocate, starting the 'Just Why Movement' in honor of her son, whom she described as having a big heart and a passion for mentoring youth.
