In the early morning hours of June 22, 2023, violence erupted on the 4000 block of Warner Avenue in an unincorporated area of Hyattsville, Maryland, leaving 28-year-old Rodney Wells, a male resident of Hyattsville, fatally wounded. Responding to a call at approximately 12:30 a.m., Prince George's County Police officers discovered two men outside, both suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both victims were quickly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Rodney Wells succumbed to his injuries several hours later. The second man, who was also shot, remained hospitalized following the incident. Investigators with the Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit have stated their preliminary belief that the shooting was not a random act of violence, suggesting that the victims may have been targeted.
