On a late summer afternoon in Baltimore, Maryland, the life of 29-year-old Codell Brown was tragically cut short. On August 6, 2023, at approximately 3:31 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting in the 600 block of East 33rd Street. Upon arrival, they were informed that a victim had already been transported to a local hospital. At the hospital, officers found Codell Brown suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, leg, and stomach.
Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The initial investigation by the Baltimore Police Department's homicide detectives revealed that the shooting had actually occurred in the 500 block of Gorsuch Avenue. As detectives began to piece together the events of that fatal day, they worked to identify a suspect in the killing of the young man. In the weeks that followed, Metro Crime Stoppers offered an $8,000 reward for information that could lead to an arrest, hoping to encourage witnesses to come forward.
Months later, a significant breakthrough was made in the case. On December 1, 2023, members of the U.S. Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested 21-year-old Keion Moore in New Jersey. Baltimore Police detectives had identified Moore as the individual responsible for the murder of Codell Brown. Moore was held in the Bergen County Jail in Paterson, New Jersey, before being extradited to Baltimore on December 15, 2023, to face charges for the crime.
Keion Moore was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and additional offenses related to the shooting. In June 2024, Moore, then 22, appeared in court before a Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge and rejected a plea offer from the prosecution. The proposed deal would have sentenced him to life in prison with all but 50 years suspended for the first-degree murder charge, along with a concurrent 20-year sentence for a firearm offense. By rejecting the plea, Moore has opted to proceed to trial, though a date has not yet been scheduled. The case remains in the court system as the legal process continues.
