On the evening of New Year's Eve, December 31, 2023, Nelson Bonilla-Reyes, a 36-year-old man, was fatally shot in Capitol Heights, Maryland. The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of Dunbar Oaks Drive. Responding officers found Bonilla-Reyes outside with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
One source indicated that Bonilla-Reyes was originally from Sensuntepeque, in Cabañas, El Salvador.
Investigators believe the shooting happened during a robbery. According to police, the victim did not know the suspects prior to the incident. Following an investigation, two suspects were identified and arrested in connection with the murder.
The suspects were identified as 18-year-old Bilal Ansariddeen of Bowie and 19-year-old Kiemontey Jenifer of Washington, D.C. Both Ansariddeen and Jenifer have been charged with first and second-degree murder, as well as other related charges. Ansariddeen was taken into custody at the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status. Jenifer was apprehended in Washington, D.C., and is being held on a no-bond status while awaiting extradition to Prince George's County. Police have indicated that the investigation is ongoing as they work to determine if there were any additional suspects involved.
