In the winter of 2016, a group of people were gathered inside a home on the 6700 block of James Farmer Way in Seat Pleasant, Maryland. Among them was 19-year-old Marcus Fogg of Capitol Heights. The gathering took a tragic turn when a gunshot rang out, striking Fogg. When officers from the Prince George's County Police Department arrived at the scene, they found the young man suffering from a gunshot wound.
Marcus Fogg was rushed to Prince George's Hospital, but his injuries proved to be
fatal, and he succumbed to them shortly after arrival. The investigation into the shooting fell to the department's Homicide Unit. As detectives began to piece together the events of that day, several individuals who were present at the time of the shooting had already fled the scene. The police issued a plea to the public for any information that could help their investigation, offering a $25,000 reward for tips that would lead to an arrest.
Through their investigation, authorities identified Sammie Warren, a 19-year-old from Oxon Hill, as the individual responsible for the shooting. Warren was subsequently arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter. The charge suggested that the investigators did not believe the shooting was a premeditated act. The case proceeded through the legal system, with the community's cooperation playing a crucial role in bringing a measure of resolution to the untimely death of Marcus Fogg.
