In the early hours of New Year's Day 2024, a party in Fort Washington, Maryland, turned tragic, leaving 21-year-old Jarreau Sanders, a Black/African American male from Bowie, with fatal injuries. The gathering, which took place in the 7500 block of Blanford Drive, was shattered by gunfire at approximately 3:50 a.m. Jarreau was one of three people shot during the incident.
While the other two victims, a male and a female, survived their injuries, Jarreau was driven to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Jarreau was a young man with a promising future. He had been a student of business management and had played basketball on a partial scholarship at Cairn University near Philadelphia. He had plans to transfer to Prince George's Community College and was employed at Home Depot at the time of his death. His ambition was to one day create his own line of sports gear. His family remembers him as a beloved son and grandson. His grandmother fondly recalled how he would often accompany her on her DoorDash deliveries to spend time with her.
The Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit is actively investigating the fatal shooting. Detectives are working to identify the suspect or suspects and to determine a motive for the shooting. As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with Jarreau Sanders' death. A reward of up to $25,000 has been offered by the police for any information that leads to an arrest and indictment in the case.
