On March 3, 2024, at approximately 7:15 a.m., Prince George's County Police officers responded to a reported shooting in the 6700 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Takoma Park, Maryland. Upon arrival, they discovered 40-year-old Derek Coleman, who had no fixed address, suffering from a gunshot wound in an apartment building stairwell. Coleman was pronounced dead at the scene.
