In the early evening of March 5, 2024, a dispute in Capitol Heights, Maryland, escalated to a fatal conclusion. Airmus Dillard, a 41-year-old male, was found suffering from gunshot wounds on the 300 block of Cedarleaf Avenue. Prince George's County police officers responded to a report of the shooting at approximately 6:25 p.m. Dillard was transported to a local hospital for medical attention but succumbed to his injuries several hours later.
The subsequent investigation into Dillard's
death pointed to an ongoing conflict with an acquaintance. Detectives identified 23-year-old Zarkee Bembo-Wilson, also of Capitol Heights, as the suspect in the shooting. Authorities believe the two men knew each other and were involved in a dispute that culminated in the fatal shooting. The shooting was not considered to be a random act of violence.
Following the investigation, the Fugitive Unit of the Prince George's County Police Department located and apprehended Zarkee Bembo-Wilson. He has since been charged with first and second-degree murder, as well as other related charges. Bembo-Wilson is currently being held at the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
