In the early morning hours of June 25, 2023, a dispute in the parking lot of a Hammond, Indiana, gas station turned deadly, claiming the life of 33-year-old Ronnie Martin, a father of four from Chicago. Martin was a passenger in a vehicle at the Luke's gas station located at 5105 Stateline Ave. around 2:00 a.m. when a fight broke out nearby. During the altercation, gunshots were fired, and a stray bullet tragically struck Martin.
Following the shooting, the individuals involved fled the
scene. Martin was transported to a hospital in Chicago, where he succumbed to his injuries. The Hammond Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide, initially seeking information from the public to help identify those responsible for the senseless act of violence.
The investigation led authorities to identify a suspect in the fatal shooting. A Calumet City man was subsequently arrested and is facing charges in connection with Ronnie Martin's death.
