In the summer of 2024, a burst of violence shattered the evening calm in a Dundalk, Maryland neighborhood, leaving a young man's life tragically cut short. On the night of July 1st, at approximately 10:00 p.m., the sound of gunshots rang out in the 7700 block of Gough Street, not far from Colgate Elementary School. When Baltimore County Police officers from the Dundalk Precinct arrived at the scene, they discovered 20-year-old Jamel Nation outside, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite the immediate response from first responders, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial investigation into the death of the adult male was quickly classified as a homicide. In the days following the shooting, details about Jamel Nation were made public as investigators sought information from the community. A reward was offered by Metro Crime Stoppers of Maryland for any information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for his death. The reward was increased to $8,000 to encourage potential witnesses to come forward.
Weeks later, a significant development in the case brought some measure of hope for justice. On July 25, 2024, Baltimore County Police announced the arrest of a suspect. Deandre Stokes, a 27-year-old man, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder and other firearms-related offenses in connection with the fatal shooting of Jamel Nation. Following his arrest, Stokes was held at the Baltimore County Detention Center without bond. The investigation continued as authorities worked to piece together the events that led to the deadly encounter.
