In the late afternoon of September 27, 2024, Dion Damon Huff, a 49-year-old Black male, was walking in the 2500 block of Greenmount Avenue in Baltimore, Maryland. At approximately 4:00 p.m., Northern District patrol officers on patrol discovered him lying on the ground. Upon checking his condition, they realized he had sustained a critical gunshot wound to the upper body.
Emergency medical services transported Huff to Johns Hopkins Hospital.
He was in critical condition and intubated, with medical personnel anticipating significant neurological complications if he were to survive. Despite the medical efforts, Dion Damon Huff succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at approximately 3:05 p.m. on October 5, 2024. The medical examiner later ruled his death a homicide.
Investigators recovered video surveillance footage from the area that captured the incident. The footage showed an individual, later identified as 25-year-old Nasya Duvall, approaching Huff from behind. Duvall then produced a firearm and allegedly fired a single round, striking Huff in the back of the head. A detective reviewing the footage recognized Duvall from previous arrests. Further investigation revealed that Duvall was assigned a GPS monitor as a condition of parole and probation. The location data from the monitor corresponded with his presence at the scene of the shooting as seen in the surveillance video.
An arrest warrant for Duvall was obtained on September 30, 2024, initially for charges of attempted first-degree murder. Following Huff's death, the charges were updated. Nasya Duvall is now charged with first-degree murder and four firearm-related offenses. In court on May 9, 2025, Duvall rejected a plea offer from the prosecution. He has opted for a jury trial, which is scheduled to take place in August.
