Manuel Manny Luis, a 19-year-old male student at Morgan State University, was fatally shot in Baltimore, Maryland, on July 11, 2019, in what authorities believe was a robbery that turned deadly. The incident occurred in the early morning hours, around 2:27 a.m., near the corner of Loch Raven Boulevard and Pentridge Road, just outside the Morgan View Apartments where Luis lived.
On the morning of the shooting, Luis was walking to his car when two unidentified Black males reportedly called
out to him, telling him to stop. When he did not comply and instead got into his vehicle, one of the suspects ran across the street and fired multiple shots into his car, striking him twice. The suspects, believed to be in their late teens to early twenties, then fled the scene heading westbound on Pentridge Road. Authorities described them as armed and dangerous.
Baltimore Police responded to the scene at approximately 4:50 a.m. and found Luis in his silver Acura with several gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects.
Manuel Luis was a business major at Morgan State's Earl G. Graves School of Business and Management and a graduate of Parkdale High School in Prince George's County, where he was a member of the baseball team. Friends and family remembered him as a promising student with a loving family. Despite the initial investigation and the reward offered, publicly available information and news reports in the years following the incident have not indicated that any arrests have been made or that any suspects have been formally charged or convicted in connection with his death.
