On an autumn evening in Salisbury, Maryland, the life of 32-year-old Tevin Mumford, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short. On October 28, 2024, shortly after 7:30 p.m., Maryland State Police troopers responded to a report of a shooting in the 800-block of West Road. Upon their arrival, they found Mumford suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was rushed by ambulance to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced deceased.
The investigation into the shooting revealed another victim, 33-year-old Ekoye Emmanuel Spates of Salisbury, who had also been shot. Spates was transported to TidalHealth by a bystander before being transferred to Christiana Hospital in Delaware for treatment of his injuries. The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit took the lead in the investigation, diligently working to piece together the events of that violent night. As part of their efforts, a reward of up to $2,000 was offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.
After weeks of investigation, a suspect was identified. On December 6, 2024, the Maryland State Police arrested 20-year-old Jermaine Wilson of Princess Anne in connection with the fatal shooting. Wilson has been charged with first and second-degree murder, attempted first and second-degree murder, and multiple other criminal charges. Following his arrest, he was incarcerated at the Caroline County Detention Center. The investigation remains active and ongoing as authorities continue to seek justice for Tevin Mumford.
