In the city of Milwaukee, a 14-year-old Hispanic male named Sebastian Florentino, also known to his loved ones as "Sebe," had a passion for basketball and making music with his friends. On the evening of January 21, 2023, a gathering of teenagers in a garage near 52nd and Clarke Streets took a tragic turn. What began with a group of youths making videos while handling firearms descended into chaos and heartbreak.
During this gathering, a 14-year-old acquaintance of Sebastian's began
playing with a gun. According to a witness, the teenager pointed the firearm and fired a shot that struck Sebastian. The shooter reportedly said, "sorry bro," before continuing to fire at Sebastian and then turning the weapon on another witness. In the ensuing panic, the suspect and another individual fled the scene. Sebastian was critically wounded, and his 13-year-old brother was also injured in the shooting.
Both brothers were rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Tragically, Sebastian Florentino succumbed to his injuries and passed away the following morning on January 22, 2023. An autopsy later confirmed that his death was a homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds. His younger brother survived the incident. The community was left shaken by the senseless loss of a young life, a sentiment that echoed the pain Sebastian's family had endured just over a year prior when his older brother was killed in a car crash.
Milwaukee police quickly identified a 14-year-old male as the suspect and arrested him.
