Shawnte Hudson, a 38-year-old Black/African American man from Racine, Wisconsin, was a father of five who was remembered for his infectious smile and kind heart. Known lovingly as “20,” he was born in Racine on March 10, 1985, and worked for several local manufacturing companies. His family recalled his passions for art, cars, and music, which included writing, producing, and rapping.
His loved ones said his untimely death left a tremendous void in their lives.
In the early morning of June 2, 2023, Hudson’s life was tragically cut short. Police responded to a report of a shooting in the 1600 block of West Sixth Street at approximately 1:12 a.m. and found him deceased inside a residence. An investigation determined he had died from a gunshot wound to the head.
According to the criminal complaint, the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute. Hudson had been in a relationship with a woman for five years, and they had been arguing that day. The woman’s mother and her mother’s long-time partner, Tracy Scott, arrived at the home. While the women were in the kitchen, Scott went into the living room where Hudson was. A loud noise was heard, and the woman found Scott holding a handgun with Hudson on the floor. She told investigators that Scott had been in the house for less than five minutes and that there had been no time for an argument to occur before the shooting. Scott allegedly yelled to his partner, “Let’s go,” and the pair fled the scene.
Police quickly identified Tracy Scott as the suspect. He was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service in New Castle, Pennsylvania, on June 27, 2023, and extradited to Wisconsin.
Scott was charged with first-degree intentional homicide and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was held on a $1 million cash bond. At his arraignment in Racine County Circuit Court in early 2024, Scott pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In August 2025, a jury found Tracy Scott guilty of homicide in the death of Shawnte Hudson. He was sentenced in January 2026 by Judge Repischak, bringing the case to a close.
