In the late afternoon hours of a summer day in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the life of Earnest J. Mays Jr., a 45-year-old Black/African American man, was tragically cut short. On Sunday, July 21, 2024, just before 5:30 p.m., Mays was fatally shot in the vicinity of 40th and Chambers Street. When first responders arrived at the scene, they found Mays with severe gunshot injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the location of the incident.
