In the city of Milwaukee, a family was irrevocably fractured on October 19, 2024, when Troy L. Humes, a 57-year-old Black / African American male, was found dead in his home. The grim discovery was made on a Saturday evening, around 5 p.m., at a residence near 29th and Courtland. When officers arrived, they found Humes had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation into the homicide quickly pointed toward a suspect close to home.
Authorities arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with the fatal shooting. The suspect was identified as Tevin Humes, the victim's own son. He was taken into custody, and the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office has since filed charges against him for first-degree intentional homicide.
According to the criminal complaint, police were dispatched to the residence after Humes's wife found her husband unresponsive in a bedroom with gunshot wounds. Investigators located seven spent 9mm casings in the room. A witness reported seeing the younger Humes leaving the backyard of his father's home shortly after the incident. When Tevin Humes returned to the scene later, he fled from approaching officers, discarding a backpack during the foot chase. Upon his apprehension, police found a 9mm handgun in his pants pocket. Forensic analysis indicated that the casings found at the scene were discharged from the firearm found in his possession. When a detective asked why he shot his father, Tevin Humes allegedly stated it was "Because they were in a cult and had people following me around." He made his initial court appearance in late October, where his cash bond was set at $250,000.
