In the summer of 2018, a family argument in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, escalated into a tragedy that claimed the life of 21-year-old Jakari Wright, a Black / African American male. On the evening of August 18th, what began as a verbal dispute between Jakari and his father, Randell Wright, over household chores took a fatal turn. The disagreement, reportedly initiated by Randell's request for his son to clean his room, intensified to the point where a firearm became involved.

According to statements made by Randell Wright to law enforcement, he retrieved his gun during the argument. He claimed that he and his son then wrestled for control of the weapon, and during the struggle, the gun discharged accidentally. However, the physical evidence presented a conflicting narrative. An autopsy conducted by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office revealed that Jakari had been shot from behind, a detail that cast doubt on his father's account of a face-to-face struggle for the gun.

Following the shooting, police arrived at the apartment building to find Jakari Wright lying on the concrete in front of the residence. Randell Wright was taken into custody and subsequently charged with first-degree reckless homicide in the death of his son. In the wake of the incident, Randell expressed remorse, stating that the tragic outcome was not his intention. Despite his claims of an accidental shooting, the evidence suggesting Jakari was shot from the back led to his father's arrest and the pressing of criminal charges.
