In the early hours of a Monday morning in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the life of 46-year-old Paul Nelson Schultz was tragically cut short. Just before 1:00 a.m. on November 20, 2023, deputies were dispatched to the parking lot of a Dollar General store located at 1504 N Yale Ave following a report of a man down. Upon arrival, they discovered Schultz had been shot.
He was swiftly transported to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he died later that day.
The investigation into the shooting quickly gained momentum as investigators utilized video surveillance footage from businesses in the vicinity. This footage provided them with a description of both a suspect and the vehicle they were driving. With this crucial information, deputies began to canvass the surrounding area. Their search led them to a home just a few blocks from the scene of the crime, where they located the suspect's vehicle parked outside.
Based on the evidence gathered, authorities took 38-year-old Thomas Lee Knox into custody in connection with Schultz's murder. It was later revealed that Knox is a tribal citizen, which resulted in the case being handed over to federal investigators for prosecution. Knox was subsequently set to be booked into the Tulsa County Jail.
