In the early morning hours of Sunday, December 10, 2023, a discovery was made behind a restaurant near 21st Street and Garnett in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A man, later identified as 24-year-old Yeison Gustavo-Tecun, was found unresponsive. When officers arrived around 7:30 a.m., they found that Gustavo-Tecun had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to his abdomen and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of the Hispanic man quickly led homicide detectives to consider the
events of the preceding night. It is believed that an altercation began at the Imperio Night Club, located near 21st and 145th. Witnesses reported that Gustavo-Tecun and his friends had a verbal disagreement with three other Hispanic males inside the club, which was broken up by security. Later, after the club closed, both groups encountered each other again at a taco truck in a parking lot near where Gustavo-Tecun's body would later be found.
At the taco truck, another fight reportedly broke out. During this confrontation, two of the males from the initial altercation at the nightclub allegedly brandished firearms. Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots. The investigation identified the three males as Dominic 'Rockie' Torres, Leonel Fabian Herrera, and Noe Alberto Cruz, known as 'Chuckie.'
Following the investigation, 17-year-old Noe Cruz was taken into custody on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. Witnesses identified Cruz as the individual who shot Gustavo-Tecun. He is now facing a charge of First-Degree Murder. Authorities have indicated that the investigation is ongoing and that more arrests could be made in connection with the city's 46th homicide of 2023. The other two individuals, Torres and Herrera, are reportedly affiliated with a street gang.
