In the early evening of July 10, 2024, a burst of violence at the Executive Inn motel in Oklahoma City claimed the life of 34-year-old Isai Vera. A Hispanic male, Vera was discovered suffering from a gunshot wound when police responded to reports of a shooting at the motel located near Southwest 34th Street and the Interstate 35 service road around 5:41 p.m.
He was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
Investigators quickly identified 16-year-old Jenabel Acevedo as a person of interest. It is believed she was with Vera at the time of the shooting and fled the scene in a vehicle with at least one other unidentified person. Acevedo was later located and taken into custody, subsequently being booked into the Oklahoma County Juvenile Detention Center on a complaint of felony murder.
Further investigation revealed that the shooting was not an isolated incident but was connected to a wider crime spree that had been plaguing the Oklahoma City metro area. Authorities linked Acevedo to a group allegedly involved in a series of violent crimes, including carjackings and police pursuits over several days. Another key figure identified in the investigation is 22-year-old Alexander Ferrel. According to court documents, Ferrel drove two male teenagers to the motel to meet Acevedo. It is alleged that Ferrel and the two juveniles then forced their way into Vera's room, which led to the fatal shooting. Following the incident, the suspects fled the scene. Ferrel was also implicated in a separate incident where he allegedly stabbed a roommate. The investigation into the full scope of the crime spree and the roles of all individuals involved remains ongoing.
