On the morning of Friday, September 8, 2023, 15-year-old Bryan Tamya was with other students, waiting for the school bus in the 7700 block of Hardeson Road in Everett, Washington. At approximately 6:40 a.m., a black sedan with silver or alloy rims approached, and shots were fired from the vehicle in a drive-by shooting. Bryan, a student at Kamiak High School, was struck by multiple gunshots.
First responders arrived at the scene to find the gravely wounded teenager.
He was quickly transported to Providence Hospital in Everett for medical attention. Despite the efforts to save him, Bryan Tamya succumbed to his injuries and passed away. The suspects had already fled the scene before police could arrive.
The Everett Police Department's Anti-Crime Team and Violent Crime Unit immediately began an intensive investigation into the fatal shooting, which was believed to be connected to a long-standing feud between rival gangs. Their efforts led to the arrest of 20-year-old Uriel A. Hernandez Martinez on the evening of September 9th. A second suspect, 19-year-old Victor E. Torres-Zuniga, was taken into custody on September 13th.
Both Hernandez Martinez and Torres-Zuniga were charged with first-degree murder. Following their arrests, they were booked into the Snohomish County Jail. Authorities believe that with the two main suspects in custody, those responsible for the shooting that ended Bryan Tamya's life have been apprehended, though the investigation remains ongoing.
