In the early morning hours of March 2, 2023, Jeremy Lee Anderson, a 45-year-old White / Caucasian male from Everett, Washington, was tragically killed. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that Anderson died from a gunshot wound and ruled his death a homicide. The incident took place at an apartment complex on 11th Drive W in south Everett.
The events leading to Anderson's death began the day before, on March 1, 2023. His neighbor, 42-year-old Jeremy Jones, contacted 911, claiming Anderson was making threats and yelling at him through their shared wall. When officers responded, they found Anderson had seemingly just woken up, and other residents of the complex reported hearing no disturbances. Law enforcement officers at the scene concluded that Jones was likely experiencing a mental health crisis but determined there were no grounds to place him under involuntary commitment.
The situation escalated the following morning. Believing that Anderson was a threat to him and others in the apartment building, Jones took his shotgun and fired it multiple times through the wall separating their apartments. Anderson, who was believed to be in his bed at the time of the shooting, was struck by the gunfire. He was transported to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, Jeremy Jones was taken into custody and has been charged with second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter in connection with Anderson's death. Reports from both defense and state experts have suggested that the defendant was criminally insane at the time of the shooting, describing the case as exceedingly rare.
