On June 20, 2022, the life of 44-year-old male Anthony R. Jolly was tragically cut short in a burst of violence inside his Everett, Washington, home. The events of that fatal afternoon began to unfold when a man named Shayne Baker, then 25, arrived at the residence in the 2000 block of Lexington Avenue driving a dark blue Chevy pickup. Concern grew among the residents, including Jolly, that the truck was stolen, and they decided to confront Baker about it.
Shortly before 4 p.m., the
confrontation took place in the living room. Rather than explain himself, Baker pulled out a pistol and began shooting. The sudden gunfire struck three men who were in the room. Anthony Jolly and another resident, 48-year-old Anthony Burnett, were both shot in the head and died at the scene. A third man, Trent Wood, was also shot in the head but survived his injuries. After the shooting, Baker fled in the blue pickup truck. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that Jolly's cause of death was a gunshot wound and the manner was homicide.
The investigation quickly linked the triple shooting to another act of violence that had occurred just the day before. On June 19, Baker had shot and paralyzed a man named Zachary Monary. Surveillance footage from both crime scenes showed the same distinctive blue pickup truck, connecting Baker to both attacks. The surviving victim from the Lexington Avenue shooting, Trent Wood, identified the shooter as a man named "Shane."
Police located Shayne Baker the following day, on June 21, sitting in the driver's seat of the stolen Chevy truck in the 2600 block of Broadway. He was arrested, and a search of the vehicle uncovered a stolen Glock pistol with bullets that matched the. 45-caliber casings found at both shooting scenes. Baker was charged with two counts of second-degree murder for the deaths of Jolly and Burnett, and multiple counts of first-degree assault for shooting Wood and Monary, as well as possession of a stolen vehicle. In May 2023, a jury found Baker guilty on all counts. He was later sentenced to 93 and a half years in prison for his crimes.
