On March 22, 2023, at approximately 10:07 p.m., 33-year-old Darren Daniels was fatally shot outside his apartment in the 2600 block of Loop Drive on Cleveland's West Side. According to the Cleveland Division of Police, Daniels was involved in a verbal altercation with 38-year-old Kemar Andre Wallace at his apartment. The confrontation escalated when Wallace allegedly fired multiple shots through Daniels' apartment door. As Daniels exited his apartment, he was struck multiple times.
Responding officers found Daniels unresponsive on the sidewalk; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the incident, Wallace was identified as the primary suspect and was considered armed and dangerous. The U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) offered a reward for information leading to his arrest. On March 19, 2024, nearly a year after the homicide, NOVFTF members apprehended Wallace at a residence near the 10500 block of Hudson Avenue in Cleveland. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with aggravated murder.
Daniels was remembered by family and friends as a devoted father and a positive presence in his community. His death marked a significant loss for those who knew him, highlighting the profound impact of gun violence on families and neighborhoods.
The arrest of Wallace brought a measure of closure to Daniels' family and the community. Authorities continue to encourage anyone with additional information related to the case to come forward to ensure justice is fully served.
