On February 15, 2024, 31-year-old Elijah McCall was fatally shot at an apartment complex in the 700 block of Elberon Avenue in Cincinnati's East Price Hill neighborhood. Officers from the Cincinnati Police Department responded to reports of gunfire around 7:20 p.m. and found McCall with life-threatening injuries; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities arrested 36-year-old Anthony Tooles in connection with the shooting.
Tooles was charged with murder and, during a court appearance, prosecutors stated that he confessed to the killing while on the phone with 911 dispatchers. An eyewitness reported that Tooles paused during the shooting, stared at her, and then fired at McCall one final time. The judge set Tooles' bond at $2 million.
